In October 2015, the VNA Board of Directors and staff reviewed input from hundreds of VNA members and developed a new strategic plan. The resulting strategic framework has four key areas of focus, outlined below, which VNA intends to make significant progress on by the end of 2018. 

Strategic Plan October 2015 – October 2018 
1. Robust & Accessible Continuing Education as the “Gold Standard” 
  • Become approved provider 
  • Website that is user friendly and easy to find 
  • Identify infrastructure and resources required   
2. Health & Safety for Nurses
  • Advocate for healthcare policies to improve workplace safety & health 
  • Advocate for evidence based best practices for workplace safety 
  • Conduct needs assessment of Virginia nurses 
  • Advocate for legislative change   
3. Legislative Advocacy
  • Collaborate with specialty associations for one voice on legislation 
  • Act, don’t react – Build consensus with other healthcare groups 
  • Advocate for laws to promote safety in practice   
4. Membership Engagement
  • Offer free continuing education at certain membership levels 
  • Visit schools of nursing, VNSA, and specialty groups to engage new members & focus groups on retention Support staff at VNA to focus on membership engagement – Intern/Part-Time staff
  • Increase regional activities & visibility
