About the Coalition

The Coalition was formed in 1996 in response to a call from Dr. Georgine Redmond, President of the Virginia Nurses Association, to members of the  Alliance of Nursing Organizations and Specialty Nursing Groups in Virginia.  Dr. Redmond invited the Alliance members to discuss their legislative issues and from there, the group determined that members would work together collectively to achieve common legislative goals.

The purpose of the Coalition is to create and implement a legislative agenda for Virginia nurses, to educate Virginia nurses on legislative issues, and to promote inclusion of nurses in policy-making bodies such as boards and commissions.

The Coalition meets approximately 10 times annually, usually in the Richmond, Virginia area.  Meetings are focuses on developing the legislative agenda, determining legislative priorities, developing strategies for grassroots lobbying, discussing legislative initiatives related to health and health care for Virginians, and educating members on issues of concern to nursing and health care.

Information on the meeting schedule of the Coalition can be obtained from the PresidentAdditional membership information can be obtained from the Treasurer.
