The Commonwealth of Virginia's Board of Nursing is the licensing board in Virginia for the following:
 

• Authorization to Prescribe
• Certified Massage Therapist
• Certified Nurse Aide
• Clinical Nurse Specialist
• Licensed Nurse Practitioner
• Licensed Practical Nurse
• Registered Nurse

Often they are confused with the Virginia Nurses Association. While the two entities work together, they are completely different.

The Virginia Nurses Association is a voluntary membership association funded by member dues. The Board of Nursing is a governmental regulatory body funded by licensure fees. You must be licensed by the Board of Nursing to practice in Virginia.
